Growing up, I always wanted to have a voice. I wanted to be heard and help as many people as I could in the process. My name is Mason, and I decided to start this blog to share my life story, both past and present, to inspire others to follow their dreams, no matter what they may be. I’m not the best writer, but with some effort and determination I know we can accomplish things together. With that being said, I’m excited to bring you along on my journey.
Why Writing?
I was never a “good” writer in school, I’m not very good at sticking to proper grammar, or structure. Writing for me is an escape! It allows me to put my thoughts on paper, or in this case, my iPad, enabling me to share my feelings and thoughts. Through writing, I can let others know they are not alone. No, I’m not starting this blog just to tell you about m; it’s also about you. I want you to know it’s completely normal to try new things and also completely normal to fail when trying new things. The trying is what matters. If everything required no effort what would be the fun in that? You see, accomplishments are also a way of showing how focused we can remain, and how we enjoy to spend our time.
How I Started To Become More Social.
Before starting my photography, I was mostly known as a homebody, but combining writing and my photography has given me the best excuse to go out, try new things, and share my experiences. I was the person that was scared to approach people, not because I’m scared of people, but because I felt I didn’t carry enough value to introduce myself to anyone else. I mean what would I even say? “Hi my name is Mason, and i like to play video games? Well that’s not very interesting, and honestly its just a way i found to give myself a false sense of accomplishment… Now I’m not saying you shouldn’t play video games, but if you are using it to fill a void their are better ways. After some therapy and realizing that I was enough just as I am, I decided more people should get the privilege to get to know me. If you’re anti-social, I want you to know you aren’t alone in this journey we call life, and you are always welcome to come along with me as I travel the world. I really hope to inspire you to create adventures of your own, and share with the rest of us. You wont be judged as much as you judge yourself.
My Goal.
I want to help others break out of their current generation’s anti-social behaviors and encourage you to try new things. One of my favorite quotes is by A.K. Best, “The fishing was good; it was the catching that was bad.” This quote reminds us that even if we don’t succeed at first, the act of trying is what’s important. We often give up too soon and dwell on failure instead of trying again. If this resonates with you, I encourage you to keep reading.
Why Start A Blog?
Blogging fits conveniently into my schedule and complements the freelance photography I do. I have a job that allows me to travel for work, providing me with opportunities to capture moments that can only be seen once. Sharing these moments allows others to see the world as I have. Traveling has been a great escape for me, and through blogging, I can share my methods of finding nice locations, making it easier for you to follow your dreams. I’ve found that spending money on memorable experiences is more fulfilling than buying the latest video game or a “luxury” meal. The funny thing is every day I realize more and more nice things i can do that cost next to nothing, like sitting on the edge of the lakefront overlooking Lake Ponchotrain watching the sunset while typing this.
Getting Out Of My Shell!
Creating content for this blog has enabled me to meet many people I would have never met otherwise. Blogging hasn’t only made me more social but has also allowed me to be more original and even a little more vulnerable. When people ask me what I do, I can tell them I live life and share my experiences. Just today i have handed out numerous business cards to people that noticed me taking photos and wanted to know what i do with my work, and now I can add that i do this… Enjoy beautiful views and share my thoughts. Of course i do get distracted easily when the sunset is this beautiful. I really should spend more time outside of buildings and in nature. Maybe this is a calling?
Should You Give It A Try?
But what is a calling? Many of us get stuck trying to find our purpose, but I believe we’re really looking for a way to spend our time that benefits not only ourselves but others as well. You CAN do anything you set your mind to, though it may take a lot of repetition. Not many people succeed on their first try with anything. Trust me i fail ALOT, but I’m not a quitter and never have been. I know you’re not a quitter either. See I believe quitting takes more work than trying, because we aren’t designed to quit when things get tough. Try getting rid of your backup plan and try what you love, I doubt you will be disappointed.
What do you want out of life?
You can only get what you as for, as Joel Barker said “Vision without action is merely a dream. Action without vision just passes the time. Vision with action can change the world. Now, I would like to challenge you: get out and do something you love. We all want to see the person you were made to be, but it’s up to you to show us. When you do that thing you’ve always wanted to do, I encourage you to reach out to me and share your experience. What is life if we aren’t sharing? Let’s get out and change the world together. Maybe if we all spend a little more time thinking about others we can make this world a place I will be much happier to see our children grow up in.
